Whether working from the office, travelling for client events or jetting across the globe, one thing has stayed firmly on our minds… food. From buzzing festivals to new pop-ups, refreshing cocktails to our favourite summer finds, we have spent August busy eating, drinking, reading and everything in between.
Take a look at what we’ve bean…
Eating
- At Miris y Maíz, this pop-up at Paradise in Soho fuses Sri Lankan fire cooking with Mexican street food. We recommend the coconut-braised beef brisket, with a chocolate and peanut mole sauce and calamansi curd. They’ve just extended until early September, so you can try it if you’re quick!
- Canal Bank Café – a spot with delicious locally-sourced food and a great atmosphere, it’s a must-visit if you’re in Dublin!
- Pizza, refreshing cocktails and riverside views at Sonny’s Bar in Kingston – the perfect vibe for a summer evening.
Drinking
- Limoncello Spritz for a zesty twist on the classic Aperol – same bright, bubbly vibe but with a lemony kick.
- Our matcha obsession continues across the continent. On a recent trip to Krakow, we tried a Raffaello-inspired matcha and a mango matcha – and we’re still thinking about it!
- After a holiday in Mexico, one bean can’t get enough of making this Spicy Margarita with Smirnoff’s Spicy Tamarind Vodka and Maldon Chilli Sea Salt – a surprising sweet-meets-spicy flavour sensation.
Cooking
- Gordon Ramsay’s super easy scrambled egg recipe – a 30-second clip that results in the most delicious, creamiest, rich scrambled eggs ever. Our new go-to breakfast.
- Tomato rice, a simple dish that feels surprisingly special. All it takes is a quick sauté of onions and peppers, a tin of chopped tomatoes, rice, and a splash of chicken stock. You get this flavourful, nutrient-packed side that instantly elevates any meal.
- Crispy dumpling salads are our go-to midweek dinner right now. With frozen dumplings (ready in just 5 minutes) tossed into a fresh salad, you’ve got a nutritious, delicious dinner ready in 10 minutes.
Reading
- Cooking with Vegetables by Jesse Jenkins (AKA @ADIP_food). Jesse’s debut book celebrates one vegetable at a time, creating a bank of delicious recipes with veg at its core.
- Carbs by Laura Goodman is a love letter to carbs, from weekday dinners to brunches – this book has it all. Comfort food heaven.
- The Trim by Julia Glotz – a free curated newsletter, packed with Julia’s favourite food & drink articles from trade and business publications, the nationals and consumer titles.
Watching
- Tom Kerridge Cooks, where Tom Kerridge hits the road in his 1950s food truck, cooking with ingredients he finds along the way.
- Cooking With the Stars has returned this month with an absolute stand-out cast that’s keeping us hooked week after week. We can’t wait to see who gets to the final!
