May has passed us by in a heady mix of product launches, video campaigns, strategy sessions and of course, sunshine. It may have been a busy one but that hasn’t stopped us getting up to all sorts of high jinks, both during, and outside of, office hours. Some of our favourite finds from the last month include…
Eating
- Gordo’s in Guildford – this family-run authentic Mexican on North Street offers up some fab cocktails and delicious small plates.
- Isla at The Standard Their gorgeous botanical outdoor area transports you to a tropical rainforest, paired with amazing food and great service.
- The Plough Inn, Cobham is the pub to go to for a good steak and with an on-site butchery, it’s easy to understand why. Find out more on here.
Drinking
- Three Sheets Cocktail Bar in Soho for classics and twists alike, not to mention an excellent range of bar snacks.
- Inspired by a holiday to Thailand back in 2004, this 3-minute Watermelon Shake. (Cass’ recipe) Simply chop up 2 large slices of watermelon (minus pips!), add 3-4 large ice cubes, pulse in a blender and enjoy!
- The viral banana latte, with mixed reviews…
Cooking
- Chicken & Chorizo Paella. Our summer party fell on the last Friday in May and this year we were treated to a paella masterclass with Paella Fella – making enough for 60, safe to say nobody left hungry.
- DJ BBQ’s pineapple salsa as the ultimate side for any barbecued goodies. Find it in his Fire Feasts recipe book.
- Charred Miso Glazed Hispi Cabbage over Tahini Yoghurt with Crispy Chickpeas & Superseed Chilli Crunch. A favourite from wholefood and plant-based subscription recipe box, Planthood.
Reading
- A Half-Baked Idea by Olivia Potts. Peppered with recipes, this memoir is really an ode to baking and how a career change helped the author deal with heartbreaking grief.
- The Maldon Salt 50 A rundown of the 50 most influential users of Maldon Salt, each chef profile gives an insight into the unique journey that individual has taken to achieve culinary success.
- The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose which inspired the film starring Kate Winslet about the unique life of Lee Miller in the first half of the twentieth century.
Watching and Listening To
- The Market Pulse Podcast. From Lumina Intelligence this new podcast provides expert insight into the trends shaping the UK’s food and drink landscape.
- Sirens. If you liked The White Lotus, you’ll love this portrayal of the uber-rich set in the Hamptons from Netflix.
- Nonnas. This feel-good film is based on a true story about setting up an Italian restaurant with real life ‘nonnas’ cooking in the kitchen (also on Netflix).
