Going to university and living in Brighton for the past two years and being part of such a vibrant city has been exciting and I have learned so much, including the best places to eat and drink! Whenever friends or family visit they always ask me for recommendations, so I decided it was about time to compile my top 5 restaurants and bars. During my placement at foodservice agency Jellybean I thought I’d get blogging and submit my review. It’s easy to get drawn into the fish and chip shops on the seafront, but if you want some really tasty food, here it is.

These 5 places are where my student loan has gone…

1. Doughbo, Hobgoblin
Hobgoblin is a student friendly pub that I often find myself in on a weekday, however during the daytime Doughbo comes alive. This unique food concept is a combination of pizza and dough balls that can be eaten as a snack or meal. They have a wide range of experimental flavor combinations and you can even mix and match – they will not disappoint.

2. The Southern Belle
The Southern Belle is a favourite of mine. Ranked as the best Sunday roast in Brighton, this roast lives up to expectations! The pub is homely and dog friendly, perfect on a cold winter’s day. Generous portions of perfectly cooked meat (as well as veggie options), crispy and fluffy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a huge Yorkshire pudding, doused in delicious gravy. If you’re planning on going, you’ll need to book in advance.

3. The Gingerman
The Gingerman is a foodie heaven with a very cozy and intimate feel. The food is outstanding, I could not fault it. The attention to detail is immaculate, yet simple, with an explanation of every component on the plate. It isn’t cheap (for a student) but worth every penny! If you’re ever in Brighton, this is the place to go.

4. Shuffle Bar
Shuffle Bar has a unique concept allowing the customers to control the music by sending in requests on their phone, creating an extremely fun and playful vibe. There is seating inside and out (with heating) so perfect all year round. They also have a myriad of cocktails, which are extremely affordable with their 2-4-1 deal.

5. Twisted Lemon
Twisted Lemon is in the heart of the lanes, tucked away down a small alleyway and off the beaten track. This hideaway has a happy hour from 1-9pm Sunday-Friday, giving you the opportunity to try some incredible, but cheap cocktails. The bar inside is small and quirky and the staff are extremely friendly. It’s a lovely place to avoid the hustle and bustle of Brighton town, but still feel the incredible atmosphere.
