Wellbeing, Connection and Growth, we’ve bean embracing January!
January is often seen as a month of fresh starts and new beginnings. At jellybean, we see it as a perfect opportunity to focus on wellbeing, as individuals, a team and the wider community. As an employee-owned agency that values workplace culture, and has wellbeing at its heart, we believe in starting the year with small but meaningful steps toward a healthier, happier future.
For many, January is synonymous with Dry January, a chance to give your body a break after the indulgences of the festive season. At jellybean, we’ve embraced this as an opportunity to think about our relationship with alcohol and explore the benefits of cutting back or going alcohol-free. From better sleep and improved energy to mental clarity and reduced anxiety, it’s a reminder that even short-term changes can have a big impact. The team has been encouraged to share their experiences, new low and no alcohol discoveries and support each other throughout.
We also took part in Brew Monday (20th January), an initiative from the Samaritans, created to reframe what is often labelled the most depressing day of the year, Blue Monday. Instead of focusing on gloom, our Mental Health First Aider, Abi Fraser, turned it into a chance to connect, check in with one another and enjoy a cuppa along with some of her delicious double-chocolate banana bread! We played group activities including a teabag target game, and a team quiz on all-things tea, with the winning group awarded some well-deserved chocolate wafer rolls. We were also individually tasked with a bingo card to complete several mini challenges, including checking in with a friend over coffee, and showing appreciation to a great listener, whether they be a colleague or friend. The day highlighted the value of getting together, reconnecting, and having fun, particularly during the darker winter months.
Wellbeing is a year-round focus for jellybean – we have a programme in place to support our team and nurture a happy workplace – but January provides a natural moment to reset and reaffirm our commitment to it. Whether it’s encouraging team members to set personal goals, providing resources to support mental health, or creating moments to connect, we’re proud to make wellbeing a cornerstone of our culture.
As we move through the rest of the year, our goal with the support of our wellbeing team is to carry forward the spirit of January – prioritising our health, supporting those around us, and making space for positive change. Whether it’s taking part in Dry January, reaching out to a colleague for a chat, or setting a goal that matters to you, these small actions add up to a big difference.
