The EDUcatering Awards held by H20’s EDUcatering Magazine celebrates the oft unsung heroes of catering in the education sector. School catering has seen its critics over recent years, but in stark contrast to the headlines, it has some of the most passionate and driven people in the world of foodservice. Dedicated to ensuring our children eat well and develop good habits early on, school caterers both in-house and in the contract catering arena take their responsibility very seriously and truly deserve this glittering night. As the leading foodservice agency we were lucky enough to attend this marvellous event hosted by Jamie Robins MD of H20 and Jason O’Rouke, Headteacher of Washingborough Academy.

The evening saw everything from best primary school caterer to best newcomer recognised and culminated in Dr. Andy Kemp of Bidfood receiving his much deserved lifetime achievement award. As well as the awards, we were entertained by a school choir and during the night managed to raise enough money through the raffle to feed 154 children for a year with Mary’s Meals. It was, as ever, a great night made possible by the team at H20 and of course all the sponsor brands, which included our lovely client Dr. Oetker who showcased their new and improved balanced choice Chicago Town pizza (including a hidden vegetable sauce) with a video filmed at George Washington Primary School in Washington, Tyne & Wear.

The awards were spread throughout the evening (which is always nice) and the winners were announced in real-time on EDUcatering’s Twitter feed here. Indeed Twitter was alight around the hashtag #EDUAwards, as the room featured two large Twitter walls, encouraging attendees to get involved, as selected Tweets were displayed throughout the evening with a leader board of top Tweeting accounts running along the bottom of the screen (we made it to 7th place! Yay!). It was a great night, with fabulous food from the team at the Royal Garden, along with great company and wonderful winners and nominees – well done to all involved!
