Summer Picnics
With summer just around the corner and the weather hotting up, it’s time to dust off those picnic blankets and pencil in some wholesome days out.
We’ve collated a few of our favourite summer spots, and foodie must-haves for your picnic basket to get you started.
Top Picnic Spots:
- Virginia Water/Savill Gardens
My go-to for a sunny walk. The lake is gorgeous, and the grounds are filled with various routes, so each visit is different. In Savill Gardens, there’s the polo ground to walk round too – and you can always bank on the fact you’ll meet some lovely dogs. - Reigate Park
A beautiful Surrey spot with open grounds, a pond and woodland. It’s a favourite for an afternoon run or weekend stroll. - Box Hill
Glorious views and idyllic walks, as the area is protected, BBQs are not allowed but picnics are most welcome! - The Trundle near Goodwood
Again, stunning views across to Chichester and the sea. There is an ancient Iron Age Fort there as well to walk around which we love. - Kyoto Garden in Holland Park
For something a little different… this Japanese landscaped garden is one for the list. The area is surrounded by lovely calming ponds and waterfalls.
Picnic Basket Essentials
1. Blondies
These tasty and indulgent bites are the first thing we’d grab at a picnic! The golden, buttery goodness is hard to resist.
2. Spanakopita
A delicious, savoury Greek dish consisting of filo pastry, feta cheese and spinach. Shaped into triangles makes for a great grab and go sharing snack for a picnic!
3. Scotch Eggs
What’s a picnic without a scotch egg? I’m quite fond of a crab and roasted pepper variation personally.
4. Homemade Breadsticks with Tzatziki
Whether you prefer your breadsticks thin and crispy, or thick and fluffy – paired with tzatziki, they’re a real summer win!
5. Asparagus Spears with Parma Ham
This easy light bite is the perfect thing to serve at a picnic – just wrap the spears in Parma ham and sprinkle with parmesan for a tasty snack.
6. Watermelon, feta and mint salad
This refreshing number was recommended by Emma and sounds incredibly refreshing and vibrant! The perfect dish to serve at a picnic or summer BBQ.
7. Cholula Sausage Rolls
These delicious sausage rolls have been cooked to perfection on a closed-lid BBQ, locking in smokiness and enhancing the tangy Cholula flavour. Follow this link to give them a go! www.instagram.com/p/ClWCp-rI_UB/
