Hospitality Action do great work for those in our industry who have fallen on hard times, and as the leading foodservice agency, Jellybean have been supporting them for over 20 years. As a thank you for our support and pro-bono design work, we were invited to their Big Fat Quiz at the London Hilton on Park Lane – an opportunity we jumped at.

Last year, the Jellybean team, along with guests from Propercorn, Bidfood, Wenlock Spring and CESA UK, took the winners’ position, so there was a lot to live up to! What could possibly go wrong?

In true Hospitality Action style, the event was fantastic. We were joined on our table by guests from Pip Organic and InterContinental Hotel Group, many thanks to those guys for making the evening so much fun. The food was the best yet (in my opinion), starting with a warm courgette and roast pepper tart glazed with cheese, followed by the tenderest slow cooked beef short rib with fondant potato, and finished with a light, beautiful, raspberry pistachio mille feuille.

The six round quiz was hosted by DJ Pat Sharp who bought the ‘funhouse’ to the evening. Whilst Brian Turner CBE hosted the live auction, where guests really showed their generosity whilst bidding for lots donated by so many of Hospitality Actions’ supporters.

So this is the bit where I say the reigning champions fought hard, showed their metal and retained the title of Big Fat Quiz champions…except, it didn’t quite pan out like that. After a fairly strong start, we felt confident that we had a chance, but as the sports round hit and our ranking dropped we soon came to the realisation that it might not happen this year. If it wasn’t for those pesky kids at Compass Group!

Nevertheless, it was a most enjoyable evening with great company and lots of familiar faces, not only from HA, but also from our clients – Tilda, Lakeland Dairies and Ferrero. Well done to everyone involved in raising the staggering £56,000 over the course of the evening, and very well done to Compass Group on their deserved win!
