With People 1st estimating that 1.3 million employees will have to be recruited by 2024 to keep-up with the growth in the hospitality market and with the ever present concerns over the impact Brexit will have on immigration, the work of Springboard UK has never been more important. The charity has dedicated the last 27 years to promoting the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry as a great place to work. In partnership with organisations large and small and through education, awareness and specific initiatives like Future Chef, it is helping young people achieve their potential. It is also supporting adults who are unemployed or facing multiple barriers to progression get into a career in hospitality.

Every year Springboard hosts its Excellence Awards to celebrate organisations and individuals across our industry who share their aims and vision. From ambassadors, regional initiatives, education and work experience to recruitment, retention and career progression, the awards celebrate those who show excellence across the many fields associated with career development in our industry. This year the Novotel West London played host to the awards as it has done for a number of years. The room was buzzing with anticipation as we settled down for the night accompanied by some of our lovely clients and colleagues. Anne Pierce MBE introduced the evening, which included entertainment from Emma-Kate Bentley and Ian Moore. The food and drink from the Novotel was fabulous and was created in association with a range of sponsors including wine and petit fours. With the awards spaced out over the evening and lots of fund raising with standing auction and free prize draw, the night flew by. Soon it was time to depart having had a most enjoyable evening – all in a good cause. Well done to the team at Springboard events and of course to Anne on her continued drive, which sees the charity go from strength to strength (we look forward to hearing more about the big future campaign!).
