An industry perspective – Lumina panel discussion
The second session of the Lumina Food Strategy Forum focused on a more informal panel discussion around some of the key topics around reopening hospitality with Vita Mojo, MCA & Lumina. Here are our top take-outs:
Lumina shines a light on 2021
As the leading foodservice agency, we are proud members of the Lumina Food Strategy Forum, and as such regularly attend their insight debriefs to ensure we are up-to-the-minute when it comes to foodservice trends. The first of two sessions this week looked at the post lockdown landscape in the wake of Covid and how both industry and consumer behaviour will be affected moving forward with a specific look at the restaurant sector.
Addicted to Craic
What with it being St Patrick’s Day and all – Ireland’s greatest celebration – it’s a good time to maybe redress the balance and talk less about Guinness, blarney, and those big leprechaun hats, and more about the rich food and drink culture of both the republic and the north. For this is a churning swell of incredible produce, traditional delicacies, burgeoning craft breweries and some stunning restaurants (and of course pubs).
Girl Power
As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2021, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the opportunities I have been given in an industry traditionally not known for its female-friendly workplaces. Today in 2021, there are organisations in place to encourage more women to set up agencies (I’m thinking of The Agency Collective) and initiatives by associations like The Alliance of Independent Agencies to promote diversity in the agency world. But I rather suspect there were no such organisations or initiatives back in 1987 when Fiona, our CEO, took the leap of faith to set-up what is now known as jellybean.
arena ‘in conversation’, jellybean event
As the leading foodservice agency, jellybean is proud to have partnered with Arena to sponsor an exclusive boutique online event gathering foodservice sales and marketing professionals together to exchange insights around the challenges of the past year, and those of the months ahead.
Jellybean is a Top 60 B2B agency
I am absolutely thrilled that Jellybean is a Top 60 B2B agency (59) and a Top 40 Integrated B2B agency (38) according to the recently released 2021 UK B2B Marketing Agencies Benchmarking Report.
A world of flavours in Toronto, Canada
Did you know that Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world? To put it into context, it would take you the same amount of time to fly from Heathrow to Dubai, as it would to fly from one end of Canada to the other.
Arena – ‘Growing into 2021’
With an uncertain year ahead, it’s more important than ever to keep up-to-date with industry news and the ever-changing needs of today’s consumer. Arena’s latest virtual event ‘Growing into 2021’ provided valuable insight and thought-provoking discussions around the post-pandemic consumer and the future for foodservice. If you missed it, fear not! We’ve noted the key take outs below:
TikTok trending or traditional this Pancake Day
Whether you have an account or not, Tik-Tok trends are hard to hide from and if you are a member of ‘Food Tik Tok’ like myself, you may have been influenced to try a trend or two over this lockdown period.
Arena – The Road to Recovery
If you missed the last Arena event ‘Hospitality – The Road to Recovery’ with Kate Nicholls OBE of UKHospitality, along with a panel discussion from leading industry figures, worry not. As a leading out of home agency we were there and here are some of my key take outs:
The Restaurant Conference 2021
The MCA Restaurant Conference is always a great event, and despite the current times, this year was no exception. Indeed, more than ever there feels a real need for the industry to come together to share learnings and insights in order to help navigate the choppy seas ahead. As most are currently closed or operating only take-away or delivery boxes, I suspect the virtual conference attracted even more attendees than in normal times. The line-up featured a who’s who of the restaurant world and tackled head-on the current issues and concerns about the future. As a leading foodservice agency, we were there to hear the latest, from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.
Takeaways and delivery: A post pandemic shift or pre-pandemic evolution?
It is unquestionable that hospitality and foodservice are amongst the industries that have been hit the hardest by the pandemic. Yet many pubs, restaurants and cafes have adjusted with an ‘adapt or die’ mentality of gritty determination that has seen them through two lockdowns and everything in between.
Dry January
Like many of us, last year I got into the routine of a regular glass of something of an evening to unwind at the end of the working day, or to relax on the weekend. Lockdowns, tiers, lack of social contact, lack of anything better to do in general and working from home, combined with more daily exercise, all gave me a good reason to treat myself of an evening (thank goodness I didn’t have to home school, I would probably have started at 10am!).
A Taste of South Africa
As a South African, I can confidently say that food is a big part of our culture. With such a diverse population – we are the Rainbow Nation after all – we are lucky to have such a variety of national favourites that bring together so many cultures and traditions.
While I can’t cover them all, I can share with you some of my personal favourites…
Making the most of LinkedIn
I recently had the opportunity to attend a Q&A session with James Gill, Head of Agency & Channel Team for EMEA at LinkedIn, through the Alliance of Independent Agencies. It’s clear that LinkedIn has transitioned from what was essentially an online platform of CV’s, to the ‘go-to’ place for businesses and professionals to network, publish, share knowledge and consumer news. And with over 720 million members now on LinkedIn, it is a business tool that should not be ignored.
Hospitality in 2021: An Industry’s Perspective
There’s no question that we’re all glad to see the back of 2020, but it’s clear to see we haven’t escaped these ‘unprecedented times’ just yet! I logged onto Lumina Intelligence’s ‘Hospitality in 2021: An Industry Perspective’ webinar where they examined the findings of their recent hospitality and retail leaders survey and sat down to discuss the impact last year had and what it means for 2021. Here’s my top take outs from the session (with data broadcast in December 2020 pre lockdown no3 & Brexit deal):
New Year, New You!
If you’re anything like me then you’ve probably started the new year hungover and stuffed to the brim with leftovers from Christmas dinner, chocolate, crisps, more chocolate and a whole heap of alcohol! Because of this (and the fact we use ‘but it’s Christmas…’ far too often throughout December), January is the month the majority of us choose to take back the reigns and decide to start our year off right -to be as healthy & active as possible.
12 days of giving – Jessica Sewell
According to PDSA’s Animal Wellbeing report (Feb 2020), 51% of UK adults own a pet, 26% of those are cat owners. I am proud as punch to say I own one of the approx. 10.9 million felines in the UK right now.
The 12 days of giving – gemma
We’re approaching the time of year when myself and Mr. F would usually take the short but muddy pilgrim up to St Nicholas Godstone for the village Christmas Carol Service. It sees the whole community and many of our neighbours come together over singing, mulled wine and homemade mince pies. It’s a time to pause and catch up before the usual Christmas chaos, talk holiday plans and share our well wishes for the year ahead. St. Nicholas is heaving, and many people are left standing in the doorways of the little church. It’s one of my favourite Christmas activities and one I’m sorely going to miss this year due to social distancing.
