12 Days of Giving – Luca
My chosen charity for the 12 days of Christmas is āSpecial Effectā, who use innovative technology to make computer games more accessible to physically disabled people.

Run my Bum off
What a hell of a year we have all had, the ups & downs, the isolation and the lockdowns. We have all suffered in one way or another. Hospitality took a big hit during the lockdowns, with the closures, tier systems and curfews being introduced, making it harder for them to do what they do best.

12 days of giving – Luca
When I was asked what charity I wanted to donate to for Jellybean 12 Days of Giving, there was one that immediately came to mind: Cancer Research UK.

The Hotelympia 10k Run for Springboard
When I was asked to run the Hotelympia 10k for Springboard I originally declined but Iām so glad the guys managed to convince me!
Although Iām a very sporty person and used to play football twice a week, I just couldnāt imagine myself running that sort of distance ā it seemed too daunting. As I thought about it though, I decided that it would be something to help focus my training, and a great aim for a great cause. I loved the fact that we were running as a group ā the Runner Beans ā and this was what pushed me into committing to the run.
So thatās when the training began! I say training, Nick and I basically ran two 10k to Box Hill and back (great run, although pretty hilly), but I think that actually really help prepare me for the run. The first time absolutely killed me – I couldnāt walk the next day and maybe in hindsight I should have started out with a 5k and worked my way up but I donāt like to do things by halves.
The second training session seemed so much easier, maybe because there it was still light outside and I could see where I was running, or maybe my legs just got used to it, but we seemed to fly round. I think itās definitely as much a mental challenge as it is physical and knowing what to expect and how your body will feel actually gets you through.
So then the big day arrived, Sunday 28th February. Up at 7.30am, banana in hand, we headed to the ExCel in London. It was a very bitter day with a chilly wind, so we had to wrap up warm. As we were picking up our race numbers (and our free running t-shirts ā thanks guys!) we were checking out the other runners, some of which looked pretty pro to me, like they do this on a weekly basis. Iām normally a very competitive person but looking at the calibre around me I didnāt think I could come any where near the front of the pack. āBut itās the taking part that countsā I chanted to myself.
11am was nearing and we were all huddled up outside, eager to get going as it was freezing outside by the Docklands. As it hit 11 we began, walking at first as there were too many people to start running straight away, but once past the official start line we were off! We started out at quite a fast pace, with all of us following fellow Jellybean Nick. You couldnāt ask for a nicer route, running around the Docklands and ExCel ā lovely and flat!
The first two laps were the easiest; I was just trying to keep a steady pace and used people around me as markers. It was really nice to see everyone around the track cheering us all on, it really kept me going and push through the pain so thank you to everyone that was there standing in the cold for us! The third and fourth lap is where the pain really started to kick in. You could see the front runners starting to lap you which just seemed insane. I lost Nick as he pushed on, with Clare and Laura also pushing past me but I was determined to keep a good pace until the last kilometre. As soon as I got to that point I sprinted like I was chasing down a through ball on the football pitch. I wasnāt going to give it up, I wanted to make sure I pushed myself as much as I could.
When youāre running that distance you think to yourself why did I agree to this, but Iām so happy we all ended up doing the race together. Itās such a big sense of achievement and I would definitely do another one in the future to beat my time (which was 53 mins and 35 secs)! The medal will definitely hang with pride in my house.
It was a pleasure to run for such a great cause and if you would like to find out more, visit them at www.springboard.uk.net. Not only that it was a great start to Hotelympia 2016, you can go visit the show at the ExCel now or online at www.hotelympia.com.

New Bean
Since completing my Graphic Design Degree at UCA, Iāve wanted to work in a lively, thriving and sociable Design Agency, and all I can say is that I have found exactly that here at Jellybean!
I came to Jellybean from working as an In house designer for a furniture company. This meant I had one client, which in turn meant I never felt I was working to my full potential, and my creativity felt a bit limited – being only one client. I enjoyed my time there though and learnt a lot, but it was time for a change!
I wanted a challenge, somewhere that I could really develop my skills and really grow within the company. I knew that Jellybean would allow me to do this, and so far I have been right!
I hit the ground running and was able to learn the ways of agency life quickly. The work is wide and varied, and differs on a day-to-day basis. One day you could be working on a magazine ad, the next day a packaging brief or a photo-shoot, and all this for several different clients -which really gets the creative juices flowing!
I couldnāt have joined at a better time – just before Christmas! A time when companies come to life – Jellybean was no exception. The whole team made me feel welcome from the get go, with social events happening after work, it was a great way to meet everyone.
I have learnt so much in a short time and hopefully have brought some fresh creative thinking to briefs! I really donāt know where the time has gone, but all I can say is that is the sign of a great job and I am looking forward to what the future holds.

What was your best subject as school?
Again I think it was the same, although I was pretty good at design technology
What was your first-ever job?
Working in my uncles hairdressers sweeping and washing hair
What was your worst ever job?
I would probably have to say working in Woolworths in the homeware section, itās not the most exciting of jobs
What was the first music single you bought?
I have a feeling it was either a snoop dog or five song, which were on cassette and yes they are very different genres
What is the most entrepreneurial thing you have ever done?
When I was about 12, my sister and I would put up a stall in our driveway and sell food from the house and objects we didnāt want anymore, needless to say we didnāt make much money.
What is your motto in life?
Its cheesy but I really like āYou only live onceā just take life by the horns and have a good time.

Free buffet at lunch everyday! With maybe a few drinks on the side.
Whatās your favourite movie and why?
I have so many itās hard to pick one! Saving Private Ryan, Goodfellas, The Butterfly Effect, Training Day and of course 10 things I hate about you! I could name so many more.
If you could pick a celebrity to join the agency who would it be and why?
Richard Ayoade, but as his character Moss from the I.T Crowd, he is just a genius, although I donāt think I would get much work done.
What luxury would you have on your desert island?
Probably my iPod, I couldnāt imagine not being able to listen to music.
What animal best reflects your personality and why?
Possibly a monkey, I can be rather loud when I want to, very mischievous and playful also.
If you could be anybody in the world (alive or dead) who would you be and why?
I think it would have to be Richard Branson, just because of the way he thinks and works, finding the gaps in the market and filling them and producing one of the biggest brands in the world.
