Choosing Cancer Research as my charity for the Jellybean 12 days of giving was a no brainer. Having people close to me diagnosed with/or sadly losing their battle with cancer was a great reason for me to raise money and create awareness of the charity. Studies show there are now more than 200 different types of cancer and 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer within their lifetime, making this a disease a we all want to beat. Cancer Research’s aim is clear – together we will beat cancer.

Upon approaching my local Cancer Research shop in Dorking, it was apparent that I wouldn’t be able to help in store, however I could help by donating anything I could to the store. So, I arranged for the beans to have a rummage at home and bring in any items they no longer wanted or needed to the office. Once I had collected our donations of predominantly clothes, bags and shoes, I held a ‘Jellybean Jumble sale’, where the beans could purchase any items they had their eye on. All money made would then be donated to Cancer Research.

The Jellybean Jumble sale went well, we managed to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research and donated A LOT of clothes and shoes which the charity was delighted with. The whole experience was truly eye-opening to see how donating something as simple as a few items of clothing can make such a difference to the charity.

Cancer Research have various ways of ‘getting involved’ with the charity, from events to volunteering and fundraising or simply donating a sum of money. To find out more about the charity and how you can help, please visit www.cancerresearchuk.org.
