Working at a leading foodservice marketing agency, I hear about amazing places to eat all the time either through insight reports, foodservice news, or indeed my fellow foodie colleagues.
When I heard about Duck & Waffle a few years ago, I knew I had to go. The reviews were great, and as if that wasn’t enough, the name of the restaurant actually lists two of my favourite foods – it was a no brainer.
I booked to go for my anniversary and although the day was cold and wet, we didn’t let that dampen our spirits (excuse the pun!). As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a member of the team and taken to the glass lift to go up to the bar and restaurant (the views were amazing!).
We then arrived at the incredible bar where after a couple of delicious cocktails, we were escorted to our table in the restaurant where the gorgeous decor continued. I had requested a table next to the window to make the most of the views and was delighted when we got it.
Now the important bit…the food. We were feeling adventurous so to start with, we shared the BBQ spiced crispy pigs ears. I know what you’re thinking (and no it wasn’t shaped like an ear, they came as strips) but this was absolutely delicious – similar to crackling but so much tastier.
Then for mains, there was only one thing on that menu that I was ever going to have – Duck & Waffle of course – and it completely lived up to my expectations. The duck was perfectly tender and the waffle with a mustard maple syrup and duck egg complemented it so well.
My boyfriend went for the house breakfast, which was their version of a full English but also included a delicious cheddar and buttermilk scone (I tried a bit and loved it!).
Once we finished we were then given (to my surprise) a lovely complimentary dessert with ‘happy anniversary’ written on it. I’d mentioned when I booked that it was our anniversary but never expected such a lovely gesture – it really is the little things that make a big difference.
All in all, a fantastic experience that I’ll definitely do again and recommend to anyone. The food, the service, the views…it was all just fantastic.
Thank you Duck & Waffle.
