Marvellous Meat Free Menu
I’m not a massive fan of meat, but I do love a crispy pancetta and the famous, award-winning Porky Whites’ Surrey sausages tucked up in a wrap on a Saturday morning too much to actually become a fully fledged veggie.
I am a lover of vegetarian food though – along with 25% of the British population who have decided to cut back on the amount of meat they eat* – and as a leading foodservice marketing agency, we like to keep abreast of new openings, so it was with great delight that I visited the newest Veggie Pret in Exmouth Market to see their much talked about, exciting range of all things veggie and an impressive vegan offering.
It only took a quick glance into the open chillers for me to realise that I was in food heaven…Brie, Avocado & Tomato Toastie, Sweet Potato Falafel & Smashed Beets Veggie Box, Vegan Mac & Greens and a to die for Vegan Brownie generously filled with salted caramel…thoughts of a sausage & bacon sarnie couldn’t be further from my mind.
The whole reason Veggie Pret became a ‘thing’ was because Pret sold 17,000 of its Beets, Squash & Feta Superbowls a week last year, outselling chicken and salmon dishes. Pret took a chance and introduced a pop-up in June 2016 and it was such a success that it was made a permanent venue in September 2016, followed by a conversion of the Pret a Manger in Shoreditch to Veggie Pret in April this year.
There is so much choice on offer that you could come here for lunch every day for two weeks and still not have made a big dent on their extensive menu. The Veggie Pret menu packs a flavoursome punch and I was left with no doubt that I’d be back, and soon.
As I hopped on the tube home it left me wondering just how long it would take before we would see the doors of a Veggie Pret opening up in Leatherhead…according to the NHS there are 1.2 million vegetarians in the UK who will be thinking the same once they sample what Veggie Pret has to offer.
