The casual dining sector is booming with the market expected to reach the £5bn mark this year.* With news of restaurant openings every week, new global flavour concepts constantly emerging and millennials leading the drive for the dining out experience it’s little wonder. As the leading foodservice marketing agency, we were of course in attendance, reporting back on what you need to know.
This week saw the Business Design Centre in Islington open its doors to some of the hottest names in the sector, including some of our own lovely clients, at the Casual Dining Show. Hosted over two days, it brings together suppliers, operators and experts alike to showcase the best and newest of what this fast-paced sector has to offer.
With Moy Park Foodservice launching a new meat-free ethnic range, Essential Cuisine showcasing its latest innovation Crème Anglaise, Tilda demonstrating the versatility of frozen rice and Dr Oetker Professional launching a new and exclusive fresh dough pizza base, it was all systems go for the beans. But what a fantastic chance to see our clients in action, get a taste of what we can expect in the year ahead and, ahem, do some extensive sampling (in the name of research of course).
Day One also saw the hotly anticipated National Burger Awards. A casual dining staple, the competition highlighted just how versatile the humble burger is with plenty of creativity shown by competitors. With Danish Crown on hand to provide the patties and a cook-off between 16 chefs, in the end it was congratulations to Las Iguanas who claimed the 2017 top spot with its Buenos Aires burger.
With food, drink, equipment and tech all on show, the exhibition was a great place to hear about the latest trends and learn a little more about what we can expect to see in the casual dining market in 2017 and beyond. See you next year!
