Myself and fellow bean Nick visited a fantastic restaurant on Saturday night that’s really worth a shout out. Honey & Co, West London, served us truly life affirming middle-eastern food and it definitely deserves a visit if you’re ever in the area.
The restaurant itself is unassuming, nestled down Warren Street, and almost looks as if someone has transformed their front room into an eatery. This makes for a unique, big-family-meal style atmosphere which we absolutely loved. It was a bit of a squeeze at times, especially when wiggling to the toilet, but it’s a small price to pay for the quality of the food and wine we were about to receive.
A snapshot of the dishes we devoured below…
Starter: We shared their famous luxury mezze, which included creamed feta (so simple, but so tasty), homemade pickles (my favourite) and a collection of three lovely breads to mop everything up.
Main: I went for the mansaf (slow cooked lamb, saffron & carrot rice, nibbed almonds &
golden raisins, rich yogurt sauce) – sensational, and they weren’t stingy with the portion sizes either. The lovely creamy, slightly sour, sauce brought the whole dish together. Nick was green with envy, although his choice was equally tasty. He went for madfunia (chicken tagine in sweet spices & chestnuts baked in kadaif). I had a cheeky bite (whilst he was in the loo) and the kadaif pastry was very unique, almost like shortcrust and puff pastry ‘rolled’ into one – pretty special.
Dessert: A meal is never complete without one (or so my overly sweet tooth tells me), I had a traditional middle-eastern baked, moist sponge with the flavour of the moment, a salted caramel sauce. Nick went for the cold cheesecake which again featured the kadaif pastry. Not to sound like a broken record but both were amazing.
We walked out of there full to the brim, but feeling very pleased with ourselves. It’s not often you come across a restaurant quite so good. The service and the atmosphere really made it for us and we will definitely be going back.
