Every year the stars of the education catering world gather at the Kensington Royal Garden Hotel to find out who will walk away with the prestigious EDUcatering Excellence Awards. In an oft-maligned and unappreciated part of the catering world, these awards offer much needed recognition for the fabulous work that is seen in school kitchens across the country. Hosted by EDUcatering Magazine and the irrepressible Alan Dewberry, who acted as master of ceremonies for the evening, the night went off without a hitch as school caterers and representatives from suppliers and sponsors (and even Gino D’Acampo) enjoyed a fabulous meal prepared by Steve Munkley and his brigade. We were also treated to entertainment throughout the night from the finalists of ‘Schools Got Talent’ including an outstanding choir, amazing street dancer and hugely talented vocalist . Whilst all were very impressive it was the Hadrian Academy Choir that was crowned winner on the evening via the touchpad voting system. Then it was on to the raffle in aid of Mary’s Meals, a charity devoted to feeding starving children around the world which this year managed to raise enough to feed an amazing 390 children for a year.
The main business of the evening was of course the awards which culminated in the Lifetime Achievement Award which went to Anne Bull for a career spent devoted to school catering. Congratulations must go to all the winners and finalists, not forgetting to the sponsors who made the evening possible, including our client Pritchitts who sponsored the Newcomer of the Year Award. And thanks must go to Alan, Morag, Dan, Jamie and the team at EDUcatering Magazine for a great event!
