Lunch Business Grab & Go AwardsIf the Lunch Show wasn’t reason enough to hot-foot it to Islington, Tuesday saw the Lunch Business Grab & Go Awards take place around the corner at the London Art House. With finalists including Ed’s Easy Diner, Waterloo Tea, Yummy Yorkshire, Timberyard Old Street, Tossed, Leon, Ca’pucinno and Hai Street Kitchen & Co there was a great mix of both group and independent operators, all vying for these coveted awards (judged by Martyn Herriott from the Beverage Standards Association, Peter Backman from Horizons and Sophie Elwes from the Sustainable Restaurant Association). Indeed with the dynamic fast casual sector growing by the day, the competition was fierce to even be short listed and the evening was packed full of movers and shakers from the industry, including of course the leading foodservice agency – Jellybean!

The guests were treated to a plethora of nibbles from waffles and pastries to canapés and tea, but in time honoured tradition, we made straight for the bubbles! Stuart and Maria from Dewberry Redpoint hosted the evening and the enthusiasm from the assembled crowd culminated in a fair amount of whooping and as the nominees and winners were announced across the categories. With awards for Best Coffee Experience, Best Independent Outlet, Best Lunchtime Menu, Best Street Food Offering, Best Tea Experience, Brand of the Year, Contract Catering Grab & Go Concept, Corporate Social Responsibility, Group Area Manager, Group Operator of the Year, Innovation Award, Marketing Award and Special Achievement Award there was something for everyone! We were lucky enough to sit with Reuben from Ed’s Easy Diner who, much deservedly, won Brand of the Year and was great company. As for the special achievement award, think high street healthy with more than a passing influence over school meals (no not Jamie!) begins with L and rhymes with neon!

There’s a full list of winners here. Well done to all, both finalists and winners, and of course Dewberry Redpoint for another great event!
