TripAdvisor has found that Staycations have proven a popular summer choice for the second year running.
Not one to shy away from hopping on a plane or boat to explore distant waters, the first opportunity I get to leave Britain, I usually take! So why are so many Brits choosing to stay on home turf regardless of cost?
With TripAdvisor reporting that 46% of Brits are looking for 4* hotels and more than 20% focusing on 5* ratings, we really must be offering some hidden gems on our little green island.
When I think of holidays, I think of sun, sand and swimming – narrow minded some would say, but perhaps that’s the child still in me! For others, it’s about the cuisine, the aromas, the people and the sites – I guess Britain has those in heaps!
With London topping the charts – ‘TripAdvisor’s Top 15 Travel Destinations for Brits This Summer’ that is – I can’t help but realise I take our capital for granted. From landmarks housing the most famous royal in the world, to museums holding pieces of our history to treasure. From high end restaurants housed in Western Europe’s tallest building; to some of the cheeriest market traders in the business, London really is a destination to behold.
But it’s not only London where Brits want to ‘staycate’; six UK cities find themselves in the top 15 ranking – in fact only four spots are taken by cities outside of Europe. So whether Brits are travelling on land or crossing a small ocean to the terrains of Europe it seems we’re quite content in holidaying close to home!
Maybe I should try it…it’d be a shame to neglect Britain’s home delights after all!
