The RAR Awards are highly prized in the agency world, mainly due to the fact that rather than being awarded by a panel of industry judges, they are based purely on client ratings through the Recommended Agencies Register (much like the TV Soap Awards ‘People’s Choice’ category – only with less bling and inappropriate cleavage). Last night saw the great and the good of the agency world gather at the Marriot Grosvenor Square to find out who would win these coveted awards across a wide variety of categories. As the leading foodservice agency, known for our strategy and insight, we were lucky enough to be shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘Market Research’ category, along with some big hitters in the market research world. As an integrated specialist agency we knew the chances were slim that we would walk away with the framed award on the night, however, you’ve got to be in it to win it, so along we went!
It has to be said we don’t do badly for eating out and events in the hospitality market, so our standards are pretty high, but the Marriot exceeded all expectations and put on a fabulous drinks reception and dinner fit for a king (or an ad man!) and as documented course by course on our new Instagram account. We even managed to take a quick shot to kick-off our #beanabout twitter campaign (spot the very subtle bean in the picture!). Then it was time for the awards as the budding Don Drapers and Peggy Olsons* of the UK agency world primed themselves for the walk up to the podium. Sadly we didn’t win, although we did offer (tongue-in-cheek) to collect the award for the winning agency, who hadn’t managed to make it for the evening (obviously too caught up in data crunching research back at the office). I think the evening is best summed up by our Digital Director who looked to the often used quote from popular eighties game show, Bullseye (ideally spoken in a broad Yorkshire ascent), ‘Well we’ve not won, but we’ve had a lovely time!’.
Our congratulations do of course go to the other finalists and winners of all the categories and to the RAR on a great event. Next up is the Drum’s Independent Agency Census so we will wait with baited breath for the results due out in May and of course keep you posted!
