FSM Awards 2013

fsmMonday night saw a line-up of who’s who in contract catering, or as it is becoming known, ‘Foodservice Management’. Gathered at The Grange Tower Bridge Hotel for the FSM Awards 2013, guests were greeted with drinks and canapés and even had the chance to appear on the front cover of FSM magazine by popping into the photo booth in the reception area. Jayney and I made a beeline for it of course and we’re sure our pic will be used for the December edition (or possibly not).

The night was hosted by the irrepressible Alan Dewberry of H20 and celebrity master of ceremonies Mark Durden-Smith (Judith Charmer’s son off the telly) and kicked-off with what can only be described as a high-energy luminous dance show complete with glow sticks! Then it was on to the business of the evening as top contract caterers offered up a delicious five-course dinner, which was interspersed with winner announcements between courses.

Each course was scored by the audience via the interactive keypads at each place-setting – and what a tough crowd! It must be said that some of the courses were slightly more edgy and may have polarised opinion, however, there were rumours of tactical voting ‘Eurovision style’ as competing contract caterers fought for pole position. But with the Twitter wall at both ends of the room everyone could have their say and post their foodie pics.

In the end it was Elior who came out on top in the battle of the courses, achieving the best score for an impressive dessert of rich chocolate brownie with Amba milk chocolate mousse, gingerbread croutons, spiced pear and lemon curd ice-cream. As Charles Campion put it ‘this is what all the best brownies will be accessorising with this season’ (I may have paraphrased). But of course the night wasn’t just about the food, it was all about celebrating the best in the industry, with awards covering everything from CSR to Sports and Leisure. Throughout the room there were award winners aplenty and despite it being the start of the week the champagne corks were popping in celebration.

As ever with H20 events it was a great night enjoyed in great company and our congratulations go out to all those shortlisted and of course the winners. To find out more about the awards and for the full list of nominees visit
