Since the popularity for burgers seems to be an ongoing phenomenon in the UK currently, it seems the perfect decision for a burger restaurant to open in Epsom (which handily is just a hop, skip and a jump from us in Leatherhead). With Epsom currently having the popular fast food chains; McDonalds, Subway and Roosters (to name a few), it seems there is a gap in the market for the more ‘up market’ burger. Taking over the former site of the Thai restaurant, Mai Thai and planning to open August 30th is Blacks Burgers.
They will be introducing the people of Epsom and surrounding areas to over 18 various handmade types of burger and we can’t wait to try them. Blacks Burgers began as a family ran run business ONLY last year in Purley, with the prospect of already opening a second restaurant in the nearby town, Epsom, showing a very promising future for the burger restaurant. Their headline grabbing claim to fame is that they offer Britain’s largest burger, ‘The Beast’, which is 12 inches in diameter and an astounding 8,000 calories! Social networking sites quickly spread the word of ‘The Challenge’ along the lines of everybody’s guilty pleasure in the TV show ‘Man Vs Food’. The Challenge is to eat all of ‘The Beast’ with the successful completion resulting in a free meal! Although this may sound like a good deal, there will be a £60 cost for the majority who are unable to complete ‘The Challenge’, most probably meaning returning home with a belly ache and a lighter wallet!
As I only live around the corner, I will definitely be taking a visit (or possibly two) to Blacks Burgers and look forward to jumping aboard this burger bandwagon – all in the name of research of course, as the leading foodservice agency has to keep its finger on the pulse of the latest foodie concepts. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!
