A new report released today by the Centre for Economics and Business Research has forecasted between now and 2022, 3.8 million people will complete an apprenticeship contributing £3.4bn to the UK economy each year in productivity gains. And I am proud to say, that I am one of three apprentices here at Jellybean.
Now, as the preliminary day of the sixth National Apprenticeship Week comes to an end, I think a little reflection on my own apprenticeship is in order…
From the age of four up until last year, I have been educated – educated by text books and the inspiration of my teachers. However this wasn’t enough for me and with the option of University and more textbook learning looming round the corner I decided to look elsewhere.
I wanted to learn by practice – hands-on, high quality learning and an apprenticeship, I was sure, would offer me just that.
I officially became a Jellybean in August 2012 taking on the role of PR Assistant. It was love at first bite. I had got the taste for full time work and I couldn’t wait to start my apprenticeship course to support and increase my learning at Jellybean.
A full day’s offsite PR training, every fortnight commenced in October providing me with background knowledge of the industry, tips and techniques for writing styles and other invaluable lessons.
Whilst finding the course very eye opening and helpful for my role at Jellybean, the training was generalised and not specific to the Foodservice industry…Cue Jellybean Creative Solutions and its in-house workshops.
From studio skills, to client servicing, covering blogging, presentation and pitching skills in between and ticking off software tutorials, social marketing, sales promotion and more – Jellybean’s workshop offering is endless.
A benefit of in house training for me is the fact that I’m in a learning environment with my team – everyone is there to strengthen their knowledge and skillset and so in turn you can learn from one another.
Knowing that the company you work for is willing to put time and effort into its staff to improve them as professionals is very encouraging as well.
A lot can be said for the companies that realise in order to offer their clients the best; they first need to ensure their staff are the best.
