Public Relations Foodservice - The Full PackageLast night saw the great and the good of the foodservice packaging industry gather for a ‘grand old time’ at The Grand  in Brighton for the FPA Awards. As one of the judging panel on the Marketing Campaign Award, I was keen to see who had been selected as the overall  winner, as well as to experience one of the highlights of the packaging industry calendar.

It was a nice change to head to the coast for a ‘do’, as we generally head into the ‘big smoke’ of central London. So with the sea breeze in our hair and possibly a stick of rock or two nestling in wheelie bags, the evening kicked off with an exhibition of awards entries, swiftly followed by the serious business of drinking in the bar (in the grand tradition of all industry do’s). Neil Whittall Chairman of the FPA acted as compere for the evening, while Cara Cottam and Mark Byrne (both Vice Chairs) gave us the run-down of the shortlisted entries and winners for each of the seven awards along with their sponsors, which were…

Winners:

National Distributor – Tri- Star

Innovation – Kobusch & Tri-Star

Marketing – Huhtamaki

Manufacturer – Duni

Foodservice Operator – Pret A Manger

Sustainability – Solo Cup Europe

Regional Distributor  – Café Connections

Well done to all those short-listed and of course the winners! With lots to celebrate the bar was the obvious place to continue the revelry, with the evening’s speaker, Dr. Dawn Gibbins MBA, featuring as a popular topic for conversation. Her unique address included her time spent as part of the Secret Millionaire programme, her inventor father, her thoughts on ‘Fun Shui’ and charity work…. as well as more unusually, her conception, repeated ‘positive affirmations’ for the audience and hugging!

All in all it was a great night with fabulous food (congratulations to the team of chefs at The Grand) and of course credit must go to Martin Kersh for all his hard work in organising the whole evening.
