The Job’s a good’un

There a few people in history of whom it can be said they truly changed the world. Last Wednesday October 5th, 2011, the world lost one such a man, the genius that was Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple.

Most people knew him as the creative guru behind Apple and his legacy and influence there will never be surpassed. He forever changed the way people interacted with computers by creating the graphics interface by using fun symbols and icons. Little did he know he would become an icon himself.  Most people around the world however might not realise that his rescue of a small animation studio that became Pixar is perhaps an even greater achievement. He saw the future of animation and made it happen.

Pixar fundamentally changed the way animated film was made. It was the combination of the computer genius and visionary creative that allied the two disciplines together to create a new medium that has changed the world of film forever. Now there is rarely an action film released that doesn’t have some cgi involved in it somewhere. All can be traced directly back to Steve Jobs.

Every graphic designer, printer, photographer, publisher animator and creative individual owes Steve Jobs and Apple an eternal debt of gratitude. Without him, the world would look very different indeed .

On Friday 14th October the world will celebrate Steve Job’s with the Steve Job’s Day. We all have admired his work. We’ve embraced his vision. And we love what he’s brought to the world. Now, honour the man himself and say thank you by participating in real life. On Friday – why not Look Like Steve!  Wear a black turtleneck to work. To school. Anywhere and everywhere. (You can even go full Steve and wear blue jeans and tennis shoes.)

Take a photo of yourself in your black turtleneck and post it to Facebook.

“That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex.” – Business week 1998
