Hard to Stomach

The name says it all. Yet this didn’t stop a hardy band of fools taking part in Edinburgh curry house Kismot’s  ‘World’s Hottest Chilli Contest’ – a charity event where participants had to eat spoonfuls of increasing strength ‘Kismot Killer’ – a curry so potent that its very essence could bring tears to the eyes of a hardened docker.

Beginning innocuously enough,  only to descend into utter mayhem, you know something at your charity day has gone desperately awry when the national press report on it using the words: agony, pain, violence, unwell, sick, shambles, ambulance, and the quote: “It felt like I was being chainsawed in the stomach with hot sauce on the chainsaw.”

Girl guide bake sale this was not.

In the end, two of the participants had to be hospitalised with the Scottish Ambulance Service calling for a review into how the event is managed.
£1000 of hard earned money was raised for The Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, yet the sceptic in me predicts that this spells the end for such spice-addled foolhardiness.

Watch out, instead,  for next year’s eye gouging fundraiser.
