Little did I know when I joined Jellybean that I would soon be climbing 3 peaks in 24 hours with fellow colleagues Nick, Sam and Lee. What have I got myself into? Training has stepped up (quite literally) and boy do we know it. I am now obsessed with stairs; if I see some, I climb them (what has my life come to!?)
Last night was the night for yet another training hike up Box Hill. Stocked up on Jellybabies, I was raring to go! Sam led the way on our first ascent up the steps. I would like to say we flew up but that would be a lie, it wasn’t a bad pace though and certainly getting easier, we were proud. We did a 2.5 mile circuit involving some more up- and steep down-hill bits while taking in the views of Surrey. We got back to the car park, re-fuelled on a Belvita breakfast biscuit (very important!) and conquered the steps and the circuit again.
It was now 8pm (a good 2 hours since the start) and we were on the home straight back to the car park. We were thinking, is it time to call it a day? Oh no it wasn’t, what a stupid thought to have, we decided to do the steps one last time, to push ourselves! The 3rd time was the hardest; my legs were beginning to feel like lead, heavier and heavier as I moved one foot in front of the other. This is good for you, I kept telling myself, good preparation! Once we reached the top, we all collapsed in a heap with a real sense of satisfaction looking over at Dorking in the disappearing day-light. We sat there thinking how amazing the views on top of the 3 peaks will be – please give us some nice weather!
