Adding further credence to the idea that ‘page speed’ (how quickly your pages load) will soon be a vital factor in how highly Google ranks your websites in its results, is the announcement that Google is now charging for a service called ‘Page Speed Service’
This comes in the wake of the launch of it’s Page Speed Browser extension which provides advice on how your webpages could be optimised to load faster,
The service is currently only available to selected webmasters to trial, and as it requires you to forward all your DNS traffic to Google’s servers, this might prove a little too major a change for many (especially the growing number of sceptics who fear the influence and reliance their business already has with Google).
Suffice to say, this will certainly influence the face of web design for those website owners who take SEO seriously, as this may result in bandwidth intensive elements such as Flash or Video content being dropped for faster page load times.
As with anything Google related, we watch with interest.
