After internet rumours last year that Jellybean client, Twinings, was linking up with Lady Gaga (You can imagine my excitement); Starbucks is doing it for real with a two week digital scavenger hunt where customers can win tickets to Lady Gaga’s 2012 world tour.
I think the link up is an ingenious and strategic move for both the coffee giant and Lady Gaga when it comes to their PR. Lady Gaga recently topped the list for Twitter fans with 10million followers and has a mind boggling 34m Facebook fans (yes I’m one of them). This week she also took the crown from Oprah Winfrey to become the world’s most powerful celebrity. Last year Starbucks became the first brand to have over 10m Facebook ‘likes’, when I checked today it was up to 22,955, 571!
Partnering up will no doubt help Starbucks target its younger customers and do no harm for building buzz around the launch of Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated album “Born this Way” which is out next week.
I can’t wait to see the campaign in action.
