It’s been quite a week in foodservice

It’s been quite a week for being out and about in Foodservice.  Tuesday evening was the long awaited return of the Savoy Lecture.  Although advised to enter through the river entrance I could not resist going through the main reception to get the feel of this wonderful iconic newly refurbished art deco hotel.  It was spectacular, my compliments to the designers who have managed to impress yet retain all the old values of this famous area.  As usual I was in a rush so did not have time to explore the American Bar or River Room restaurant or any of the bedrooms but I will be back to savour their delights sometime soon.   It was a fantastic evening with guests from all sectors of the industry attending to hear the wise and enlightening words of the speaker Richard Cousins, Group Chief Executive of Compass Group PLC.  Arena events are always great networking opportunities but this one was exceptional as colleagues, clients, suppliers and operators mixed and mingled over champagne and canapés before dining on a delicious 3 course meal in the elegant newly refreshed ball room.

Tonight it is the Cost Sector Catering Awards at the Hilton London Metropole, an event which for years has rewarded the sometimes overlooked sectors of our industry who work so hard to provide essential meals and services to the NHS, Prisons, Education and business sectors.  It is an event where foodservice caterers are judged by their peers and get industry wide recognition for their achievements the awards are highly valued by the industry.  I am looking forward to it immensely and have a pair of matchsticks in my evening bag to keep my eyes open beyond midnight.
