Black Swans, Beautiful Burgers and Bad Chips

In an attempt to spruce up a mundane Monday night, went with my hubby to see The Black Swan last night.

Verdict: Fantastically directed and Natalie Portman gave a perfect performance as the troubled ballerina Nina. Film was a lot darker than I had anticipated but all the better for it, stays with you a while after leaving the cinema.

Beforehand, with not much time to spare, we grabbed a burger at the newly opened Gourmet Burger Kitchen in my home town of Guildford. A nice change from the Italian chains that dominate Guildford high street! Opted for the Mexican burger which was juicy and plentiful (love that burgers arrive at your table still a little pink rather than incinerated) however the chips were clearly re-heated or had been left out on the pass for a good while – not good – why do restaurants think this is acceptable?

Verdict: delicious burger, friendly staff but very disappointing chips – cold and chewy – yuck! You’d have thought a chain specializing in burgers would pay more attention to the most classic burger accompaniment.
