My colleagues at Jellybean lovingly mock me for being “country”. I can’t imagine why. Maybe it’s got something to do with rushing around Clapham Junction in my gladrags flapping about platforms and train times. It was embarrassing how I clung to the newest member of the Bean Team, Nick, to show me the light. At one point I wondered why I couldn’t get through the ticket barrier until I realised that I was trying to insert my receipt clearly marked “THIS IS NOT A TICKET”.
So when we finally arrived at Wallace & Co restaurant in Putney, I was ready for a hearty meal. And I wasn’t disappointed! The atmosphere was relaxed and the setting quaint. A couple of glasses of wine and a chinwag with fellow beans went down a treat before the grub was up.
I had a light crayfish cocktail to start followed by a chunky steak (perfectly cooked) with chunky chips to match. Unfortunately I didn’t have quite enough room to finish the apple crumble I had looked forward to all day, but it was delicious all the same. To top off a great meal, I enjoyed a strong espresso and the pièce de résistance – tiny warm mince pies.
As my first opportunity to get to know the beans outside of work, I weaved my way down the table to ensure a nice chat with everyone. It was a good giggle and a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
And when I weighed myself this morning, miraculously I had lost 2lbs. So overall, a storming success!
