The great and the good of the foodservice industry donned hats and gloves and headed to Knightsbridge this morning. Not as you might think to do a spot of high-end Christmas shopping, but to hear the latest from Peter Backman and his team at Horizons at their Quarterly Breakfast Briefing.

So what is in store for the UK foodservice market?

Presentations were delivered covering the economy in general, the foodservice market, discounting and business life cycles, all to enlighten the gathered delegates on various aspects of the out of home market. As we come out of recession things aren’t exactly rosy, but there is good news for managed food led pubs, casual dining and the London market. Although the cost sector and under funded operators will face a challenging time ahead.

In general it seems consumers like eating out but not spending money! This is reflected by the rise of vouchers, as an incredible 16% of people are eating out using vouchers!! Predominantly female 16-24 – as proven by many of our office outings to Pizza Express!
