Last night I was lucky enough to be invited along by Aviko to the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards at The Royal Lancaster Hotel.
The annual event saw the industry come together to celebrate the country’s top culinary talent; in an evening themed as ‘pure skill, pure talent and pure magic’ the 600 guests were treated to a magical evening in more ways than one with fabulous food and entertainment.
With past winners including Heston Blumenthal, the Roux Brothers and Marco Pierre White; Legendary Chef Pierre Koffmann was presented with the Special Award, and Michelin chef and restaurateur Sat Bains scooped Restaurant Chef of the Year.
The evening saw a total of 14 chefs from across the industry being awarded:
Apprentice Chef: Conor Stein, the Royal Garden Hotel
Banqueting Chef: Steve Golding, Sodexo Prestige
Competition Chef: Richard Bowden, Compass Group
Contract Catering Chef: Derek Reilly, Sodexo
Cost Sector Chef: Robert Kennedy, Royal Military Academy
Development Chef: Phil Rimmer, Apetito
Education Chef: Norman Robertson, Ayr College
Ethnic Chef: Jitin Joshi, Vatika Restaurant
Pastry Chef: Sarah Hartnett, the Park Lane Hotel
New Restaurant of the Year: Galvin La Chapelle
Pub Restaurant Chef: Alistair Barlow, the Fleece
Restaurant Chef: Sat Bains, Restaurant Sat Bains
Young Chef: Adam Smith, The Ritz
Special Award: Pierre Koffmann
