I was lucky enough to attend the San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants last night at the Guildhall London. What an amazing event and venue. The Guildhall with its splendid high-arched ceilings, Gothic stained glass windows, medieval crypt and monuments and statues of national heroes was at one point in danger of stealing the show. But this amazing building was packed wall to wall with the great and the good of the culinary globe as well as the "Paps " from all the top food titles and nationals from the world media. Chef's had flown in from all corners to attend the big reveal of the top 50 restaurants in the world as voted for by over 4,000 food writers, critiques and peers. The place was positively buzzing – whether it was the speciality food hall, canapés or champagne, wines and cocktails everything was absolutely top drawer and made this event a true showcase for the ultimate in food, drink and hospitality. The number one restaurant in the world is now officially Noma in Denmark which pipped El Bulli in Spain to second place. Now that I have the full list I must make it my life's mission, as a gastronaut, to experience as many of them as possible on my travels. Starting closest to home with The Fat Duck which lies in 3rd place!!! Thank you Restaurant Magazine for inviting me – it was an evening to savour in every sense.
