The Publican reported yesterday (08.04.10) that Nicholson’s pubs have their own unique political opinion poll.
Around 70 Nicholson pubs, owned by Mitchells and Butlers, will be serving London Pride from three different pumps. Each pump will have a picture of either Gordon Brown, David Cameron or Nick Clegg attached to them. The popularity of each party will be recorded on Swig-O-Metres in each venue and serve as an indicator of pub-goers political swing.
Ralph Ballard, senior marketing manager for Nicholson’s, said: “I wouldn’t like to say who my money is on. Nicholson’s customers got it right last time with Labour, so it will be interesting to see which way it goes this time.”
Gwylym Arthur, manager of the Marquis of Granby which is 600 metres from the Houses of Parliament and where the exercise was launched, said: “With election fever hotting up, what better way to show your party support than by enjoying a pint from the Brown, Cameron and Clegg pumps?”
