Bean to Barcelona

This Jellybean is just back from Barcelona, having joined Restaurant Magazine’s R150 study tour of this foodie city. What a gastronomic delight! Not only did we eat from dawn until dusk (literally!), our first stop, and the highlight of our trip, was a very special, money-can’t-buy tour around the creative workshops and to meet Ferran Adria, the world famous, and highly acclaimed chef of El Bulli, four times winner of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and three Michelin star holder. What a treat.

Then we were caught up in a whirlwind of food; a guided tour of La Boqueria Market, lunch at Restaurant Suquet Almirall set on the sea front, visits to some of the finest food boutiques in the city, a visit to Mon Vinic for some wine tasting, pre-dinner tapas at Inopia, Albert Adria’s buzzing establishment, before dinner at La Fonda Gaig to sample some of the finest Catalan food in Spain. It was then on to Luz de Gas for drinks, which for some, lasted until 5am!

The next day saw us touring the Estrella Damm brewery with a beer and food matching session, before heading back to the airport and home.

If you are at all interested in food, I’d recommend Barcelona. But be warned, don’t eat for a week before you go, and I can guarantee you won’t want to after you return!
