The multiples did it last year over our shopping baskets and now a war has broken out between coffee chain giants Costa & Starbucks.
After Costa ran an advert that stated “Sorry Starbucks – the people have voted” Starbucks is fighting back, complaining to the Advertising Standards Authority that Costa’s claim was based on cappuccinos sales (7/10 would choose Costa’s apparently) which Starbucks has pointed out makes up a small part of coffee sales.
The jury is out on whether this style of marketing warfare works or whether we are loyal to our frothy coffees.
