News from Afganistan over the last few days has reinforced just what a tough job our boys over there are doing and the danger they face every day.
I was fortunate enough to meet Lt Col Rupert Thorneloe last summer, who last week became the highest ranking officer to lose his life since the Falklands war in 1982. His body was flown back to this country yesterday.
He was best friends with a guy who lives in our village and was godfather to his son.
Spare a thought today for his wife Sally and two young children Hannah and Sophie.
However tough we think our life is, however hard we have to work, I think we are the fortunate ones.
